Creating a threshold alert in Network Visibility
In Network Visibility, you can create threshold alerts (watches or warnings) to be notified when a service exceeds a specific metric. After you create the threshold alert, you can edit it to change the criteria triggering the alert or who the alert is sent to. You can also delete a threshold alert if you no longer want to be notified of the condition.
Note: The type of performance metric you can create threshold alerts for varies based on the service.
To create a threshold alert in Network Visibility:
- Using the left menu, click Monitoring, then click Network Visibility.
Lumen Connect opens Network Visibility. Tiles show a quick view of your network services: status, utilization, and performance. You'll also see tiles for threshold alerts, repair tickets, and scheduled maintenance (planned network maintenance). Below the tiles, you can view a list of your services by status, utilization, or performance, and those with threshold alerts, repair tickets, or scheduled maintenance associated with them. You can also view your services by location on a map using the Monitored Locations toggle. Use the Backbone Performance and Summary Reports tabs to access additional network performance data. (To refresh the data show, click the icon.)
- Search for the service you want to work with:
- From the Monitored Services view, do any of the following:
- Use the tiles to access a filtered list of services based on status, utilization, or performance..
- Use the tiles to see a filtered list of services with active threshold alerts, open or recently closed repair tickets, or in progess or upcoming scheduled maintenance (planned network maintenance).
- Below the tiles, use the tabs to see a list of your services by status, utilization, or performance, and those with threshold alerts, repair tickets, or scheduled maintenance associated with them.
- Use the tiles to access a filtered list of services based on status, utilization, or performance..
- From the Monitored Locations view, select a location on the map, then click the service you want to work with.
- From the Monitored Services view, do any of the following:
Based on the service you selected, Lumen Connect shows all services that location.
- Click the row for the service you want to work with.
Network Visibility shows the details for the service you selected.
- Click Actions, then click Manage Threshold Alerts.
- In the window that appears, select the radio button for the metric category of threshold alert you want to create, then click Next.
Lumen Connect lists the threshold alerts currently set for the service (if any) based on the category you selected.
- Click Add to create either a warning or watch threshold alert.
- Fill in the details for the threshold alert:
- If the performance metric allows for class of service, select the class of service from the CoS list. (If the performance metric doesn't allow for class of service, Lumen Connect shows N/A.)
- From the Threshold list, select the preformance threshold that triggers the alert.
- From the Timezone list, select the timezone to use for the hours of operation. (For example, if you're located in Chicago, you may want to be notified if a service supporting your London office reaches a certain threshold during peak hours in London.)
- In the Send Notification To field, verify your email address or type the email address you want Lumen Connect to send the threshold alert to.
- From the Alert / Dynamic Capacity Hours list, select when you want the threshold alert to notify you if the threshold is met (during peak hours, off hours (including weekends), or all the time).
- If the performance metric allows for class of service, select the class of service from the CoS list. (If the performance metric doesn't allow for class of service, Lumen Connect shows N/A.)
- When you're done, click Next.
- Review the alert, then click Save.
